Forfar Triathlon: Event Cancelled
6 May 2020: After a lot of thought and discussion, it is with regret that we are cancelling the 2020 Forfar Triathlon. At this stage in lockdown we cannot see how an event which will attract 300 participants and volunteers (not to mention spectators) will be allowed to go ahead this summer. Amongst many other things, we are also very aware that participants are currently unable to train properly, especially for the swim element of the event. We have concerns about the wider implication this has for participants in an event where you are testing your physical capabilities.
I will start the process of refunding all entry fees tonight, however I am anticipating this process will take a week to complete. I would be grateful for your patience while I work through this. Participants will receive a full refund, including any donation they made to our charity partner Tayside Mountain Rescue.
I am very aware that our event participants make a significant donation towards Tayside Mountain Rescue’s ongoing costs each year and, like many organisations, their fundraising plans will have been severely hit with the current restrictions. If you are in a position to support the Team I know they would be very grateful. You can donate via their website – https://www.taysidemrt.org/donate/. No one in the Team gets paid to do the job, they all do it because they choose to. They can’t however do their job without the tools and equipment needed to save lives (and to protect their own lives whilst out on a rescue) which is why they need to fundraise all year round.
We are truly sorry that we have had to cancel both our events this summer, but we hope to be back with a bang in 2021 and we look forward to seeing you all then. If you have any questions about either event please do not hesitate to get in touch.
In the meantime, stay safe, stay home and hopefully we can start coming out of this soon.
Kind regards,
Maggie Lawrie
